A business model for the sensing area, based on Unicamp’s protected technology in the field of Physics, won the 3rd edition of the “Transform your Research into Business” programin two categories. The final was held this Thursday (9/22), online. Six selected works were presented through a pitch to a panel of experts. The project “Integrated Optical Biosensor, detection method and uses of the biosensor” won the jury in the “Best Business Model” modality and also won the popular vote.
The program Transform your Research into Business is a realization of the Fórum Campinas Inovadora Foundation and aims to develop entrepreneurial skills among researchers so that they can present the results of their studies to the market.
The project “Integrated Optical Biosensor, detection method and uses of the biosensor”, elaborated by researchers from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) and the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), based on a technology developed at the Physics Institute “Gleb Wataghin” (IFGW-Unicamp) and protected with the support of the Innovation Agency Inova Unicamp, received a R$4.5 thousand award offered by the FFCi.
The group also received legal advice, focused on formatting the company, offered by Unicamp’s daughter company and sponsor of the event, Alcance Innovation Consulting, and will be able to use the Mescla space for three months (coworking, digital fabrication laboratory, and tools with technical advice for using the equipment) and participate in the Acceleration Program at PUC-Campinas.
Luís Alberto Barêa, assistant professor at UFSCar’s Department of Electrical Engineering, and one of the members of the winning team, thanked for the result. “The program is excellent and offered us a huge learning experience. During the program, participants received Lean Canvas and Pitch training, underwent individual mentoring, and evaluation. This year, it was possible to register teamwork and individual work.
Besides the “Optical Biosensor”, the “Transform IA” project, led by master’s degree student Valdemir Sales Matias Júnior, from Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), was the winner in the “Outstanding business model in the Energy and Oil area” category. He received a R$4,500 prize offered by Cepetro (Center for Energy and Petroleum Studies), from Unicamp. “This area, energy and oil, really deserves attention. I am very happy with the achievement and to bring my project closer to possible partners,” said the master’s student Matias Júnior.
